The Executive Mayor of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM), Cllr Mbuso Magubane, officially handed over the newly completed phase two of the Elukwatini access road on Monday 10.
Magubane said the successful completion of this project marks a significant milestone in the municipality’s commitment to improving infrastructure and boosting local economic development. The project provided economic opportunities for the local community, with 45 local labourers employed and several sub-contractors benefiting from the initiative.

“This aligns with the municipality’s strategy of economic empowerment by ensuring that community members actively participate in development projects. Local taxi associations have expressed their appreciation for the municipality’s efforts in improving the road network. Moreover, the road’s rehabilitation is expected to enhance road safety and ease traffic congestion, particularly during peak periods such as December,” said Magubane.
During the handover ceremony, Cllr Magubane emphasized that the infrastructure upgrade is part of a broader municipal plan to enhance public transport routes in and around Eerstehoek. He further reiterated the importance of prioritizing local Small-, Medium- and Micro Enterprises (SMME’s) regarding development projects, stating that outsourcing should only be a last resort.

In addition, the Mayor announced that the municipal programme of assisting all wards would continue throughout the week in Ward 25. This ongoing initiative aims to address road infrastructure issues and other pressing community needs across all municipal wards. The CALM remains committed to sustainable development and community upliftment through continued investment in public infrastructure projects.
