Parents of learners at Ligugu Secondary School in Dundonald are protesting against non-maintained and debilitated structures and safety concerns. The school was built in 1980.
All teaching has been stopped by parents, not only because of the physical structure of the school, but also due to the fact that it is not fenced and the safety of staff and learners are compromised.

The school had several burglary incidents with the latest on Sunday March 09 during which computers were stolen. Parents said they would not allow teaching and learning to take place until their cries are heard.
“We have engaged with the Department of Education (DoE) on several occasions to build a new school for us but it fell into deaf ears. We are going to use the language that our government understands.

Teachers and learners are not safe with criminals having easy access to the school and our young girls can be raped and or mugged,” they said. While the protest would initially be a peaceful one, parents warned that this could change if their demands are not met.
The spokesperson for the provincial DoE, Gerald Sambo, was not available for comment at the time of going online
