MEC for Culture, Sports, and Recreation Leah Mabuza, participated in a community fitness walk and led the official handover of a new multipurpose facility court at Emanzana (formaly known as Badplaas) on October 27.
The event emphasized the importance of fitness as a foundation for community sports participation, promoting a healthier lifestyle for all residents.
According to Mabuza the new combo court is part of an initiative to foster sports in the area, with a focus on reducing crime and providing a platform for young people to engage constructively.
By encouraging sports involvement, the facility aims to help youth showcase and develop their talents, offering an alternative to crime and contributing positively to community life. She highlighted that, given the high unemployment rate in the country, sports can provide a viable pathway for some to make a living through their skills.

“I would like to urge the resident not to resort to damaging public property during protest , as it delays community development. Government resources are allocated to build infrastructure only once, with priority then shifting to other needs,” she said.
To enhance the experience at the new facility, MEC Mabuza provided a range of sports equipment, including tennis kits, cricket bats, and netball bibs.
The executive mayor of Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, Councillor Mbuso Magubane, expressed appreciation for the support from the MEC’s department, noting the limited sports facilities in the area.

He emphasized that the introduction of various sports at the combo court would support young people in making productive choices, reducing the risk of crime and drug abuse.would
The event underlined a shared commitment to community health, talent development, and constructive youth engagement in the municipality.
