The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, on June 25 engaged with organisers of the planned march and march scheduled to take place on June 30 in the province.

The meeting was held at the Nkangala District Municipality and was attended by the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, Executive Mayor of Nkangala District Municipality, Councillor Thomas Ngwenya, senior government officials, and representatives from law enforcement agencies.

The engagement forms part of the provincial government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that public gatherings and demonstrations are conducted in a lawful and orderly manner while promoting peace, stability and public safety.

With the planned march attracting significant public interest, government emphasised the importance of cooperation between organisers, law enforcement authorities and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of participants and communities.

Premier Ndlovu reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to upholding the constitutional right to peaceful assembly, while stressing the need for all parties involved to act responsibly and within the framework of the law.

The discussions focused on logistical arrangements, safety measures and mechanisms to minimise disruptions to residents, businesses and economic activity during the planned demonstration.

Government officials highlighted the importance of proactive engagement in preventing potential challenges and ensuring that the rights of march participants are balanced with the rights and interests of the broader community.

Authorities also assured organisers that law enforcement agencies would work closely with all stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful event while maintaining public order and protecting lives and property.
