The days of Bethal and eMzinoni residents and businesses being in darkness due to unplanned power outages will be a thing of the past when the a new multi-million-rand electrical substation and power line constructions are completed.
In another critical milestone in service delivery, the Executive Mayor of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, Cllr Nhlakanipho Zuma, alongside the Gert Sibande District Municipality, Cllr Walter Mngomezulu, officiated a sod-turning ceremony and launch of the project on Monday, April 03.
The purpose of the project is to increase supply capacity to allow more people to be electrified and resolve the current supply issues of the Notified Maximum Demand (NMD) by building the following infrastructure: 1 x 88 kv line more than 9km, 40 MVA Substation, 1 x 40 MVA Transformer, 1 x spare plinth for the transformer and control room.
This will come as good news for residents and businesses of these areas who are experiencing numerous power outages as a result of overloading and the aging electrical infrastructure.
Illegal connections also contribute to the disturbance of power circulation.
The overload affects the grid badly as the council from time to time has to source and replace burnt-out cables, transformers and circuit breakers.
The project will unlock economic and development opportunities around these areas.
Residents and councillors have expressed their gratitude for this life-changing project in the area.
The municipality is committed to maintaining and refurbishing critical infrastructure.
