A truck driver walked 2km to get help after he crashed his truck down an embankment on the R38 between Barberton and Badplaas on Thursday morning, February 1.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen, Emer-G-Med was called out to an accident at about 07:00.

“While they were approaching the scene an injured male was found on the side of the road. He was assessed and found to have suffered a broken arm and moderate injuries,” said Van Reenen.

“The injured man explained that he was driving a truck on the pass when he lost control of the vehicle. It crashed down the embankment.”

He said the man managed to free himself, but due to the lack of a cellphone signal in the area he was unable to call for help and then had to walk about 2km before he was able to call for help.

“He was treated and stabilised on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Van Reenen.
