Twelve people spent two nights behind bars before they were granted R2,000 bail each by the Carolina Magistrate’s Court today, February 28.

The twelve protestors, eleven males and one female, aged between 19 and 44, were part of an angry mob of community members from Kromkrans in Carolina that blocked the road leading to the Areshomeng Mine on Monday night, February 26.

It was further reported that the community members turned violent and started throwing stones at the passing vehicles on the same night.

Police then affected arrests as they are obligated to arrest violent community members.
There is, reportedly, a court order issued to the community members on behalf of the mine.
