Badplaas resident, Sabelo Fakude (54), released a new 12 chapter book for orphans –“And Orphans Cried Tearless Tears.”
From the first chapter Fakude shares his own painful journey of how he was orphaned in the 1980’s and forced to fend for himself without parents. His mother died at Rob Ferreira Hospital in October 1980 after a mysterious illness. Sabelo and his three younger siblings were orphaned in 1985 when their father, their only living parent, was shot in Mbombela by two men trying to rob him. Since then, this remarkable man and his siblings were left on their own.
“Looking back at that hurtful past and at how I managed to make it to university in the midst of all that, I decided to write something for those who find themselves in similar situations by using my own childhood experience. I hope that with orphans in a family this book would give them a better perspective, understand and treat orphans differently,” he said.

Fakude explained how the severe trials and tribulations grew him spiritually and psychologically empowered him. He also deals with how to let go of grudges, forgive, respect other human beings and dealing with depression as a result of losing a breadwinner. He talks about how important it is to associate with the right kind of people and discovering your purpose while building a future.
“The book is for everyone because in many families there is an orphan and now they will know how to treat them. The orphans, once they read the book, will have a new way of handling life better. In short, I wrote the book for every gender and race who are fortunate to have family they belong to, to have a better understating of orphans,” he concluded.
