The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) kicked off its Easter Weekend Safety Campaign in eManzana, aiming to reduce accidents, particularly on the R38 road.

CALM Mayor Daniel Nkosi, led a proactive stop-and-search initiative, in collaboration with police officers and firefighters, to ensure compliance with road safety regulations.

“The campaign empowered the municipality to conduct searches without warrants, focusing on heavy vehicles’ roadworthiness and the possession of Public Driver’s Permits (PDPs).

Nkosi also watch over road marking activities, a critical aspect of road safety given most roads in the area lack proper markings.

“The municipality’s new road marking vehicle play a crucial role in enhancing road visibility, aligning with road and transport regulations as the Easter weekend approaches” explain mayor.

The Executive Mayor extended Easter blessings to all residents and urged them to prioritise safety while traveling during the holidays. He condemned the drinking and driving and advised motorists to take regular resting intervals, especially when they are driving for a long distance.

“The municipality comprehensive approach to road safety underlines its commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend for all,” concluded the mayor.
