The Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, in partnership with the Association of China-Africa Smallholder Agriculture (ACASA), hosted a hybrid livestock workshop.
The workshop was held on Monday August 26 at the Badplaas Forever Resort in Manzana, Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality.
This landmark event aimed to enhance the capacity of smallholder farmers across Mpumalanga Province in livestock agri-business, with a focus on poultry, cattle, and pig farming.

The workshop featured training on several key topics: healthy breeding technology for laying hens, comprehensive prevention and control of avian influenza in poultry, major cattle diseases and their management, and large-scale cattle farm breeding management.
Additional subjects included biotechnology, vaccines, management strategies, entrepreneurship, and marketing, alongside opportunities in the Chinese market.
The initiative stemmed from agreements made at last year’s BRICS summit, where South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other African leaders signed memorandums of understanding on industrialization, agriculture, and training.
