Five people were killed in a head-on collision between an articulated truck and a sedan on the N4 toll road between Machadodorp and Belfast on Sunday afternoon April 06.
According to the spokesperson for Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) Mmusi Moeti, the deceased include a toddler, two males, and two females.
“The victims were occupants in the sedan, and they all died at the scene. One person also in the sedan sustained serious injuries. The driver of the articulated truck was slightly injured. The cause of the crash remains unclear at the moment, but the investigation is already underway,” he said.
Mpumalanga MEC forDCSSL. Jackie Macie, says it was deeply regrettable and sad for people to lose lives in crashes that are mostly avoidable.
“It is deeply saddening for families to lose their loved ones in crashes that are mostly preventable. We continue to call on motorists to use the road with due diligence and great caution to avoid deadly collisions,” he added.
