The Executive Mayor Cllr Mbuso Magubane is deeply shocked and saddened by the shooting incident involving our Municipal Manager, Ephraim Thabethe.
Thabethe was shot November 25, at about 17:00, on his way home from work.
“The motive of the shooting is unclear at this stage however a case has been open with the South African Police Service and they are investigating the matter. Currently Thabethe is in a stable condition and recovering well. We extend our gratitude to the emergency response teams and law enforcement officers for their prompt action. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Municipal Manager’s family, friends, and colleagues” he said.
Magubane has strongly condemned the shooting of the Municipal Manger. He also urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or an information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station.
Caroline Police station spokesperson Thabang Mokwana, confirmed that the police in Carolina are investigating an attempted murder after Thabethe was shot.
Thabethe was driving on the R38 road from Carolina towards eManzana when Red Renault overtook him. Inside the vehicle, there were two African males. The passenger pointed him with a firearm and started shooting, aiming at him. He managed to make a U-turn with his bakkie driving back to Carolina. He found traffic officials next to the Carolina railway line, and they drove him to Carolina Hospital, where he was treated, and he was released the same day,” he said
Mokwana added that the victim sustained injuries as he was shot on his two left hand fingers and his forehead was also scratched. His vehicle had three bullet holes on the driver’s side and the window of the driver’s door also smashed.
