Members of the Border Policing in Oshoek arrested a male suspectDaga guy (35) from the Kingdom of Eswatini on charges of dealing in dagga as well as for contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa. The suspect was arrested in the early hours of yesterday, Tuesday April 04.
The provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the police were busy with their routine duties where they conducted stop-and-searches outside the Port of Entry in the Cargo area.
“At about 05:00 am, they came across a man carrying a black travelling bag at a hiking spot. During the search, they discovered that there was a lot of dagga inside the bag he was carrying. The weight of the dagga was at 13,2 kilograms with an estimated street value of about R 55 440-00.
“That was when the suspect was arrested and charged for dealing in dagga. During preliminary investigation, the police realised that the suspect is a foreign national and when he was asked to provide legal documentation to be in the country, he failed to do so. In collaboration with officials from the Department of Home Affairs, an additional charge for contravention of the Immigration Act was laid against him,” he said.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 05 April 05 facing the said charges.
