The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), through its Tourism Training Unit, has launched a five-day Tour Operators Training Workshop as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the province’s tourism sector through capacity-building and skills development.

The workshop, taking place from June 17 to 21 at Songimvelo Nature Reserve in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality, has brought together 35 tourism small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).

The programme places special emphasis on supporting Historically Disadvantaged Individual (HDI)-owned enterprises and aspiring tour operators.

Participants are receiving training in key aspects of the tourism business, including tour operations, tour packaging and itinerary development, pricing and costing, marketing and sales strategies, legal compliance, and customer service.

According to the MTPA, the initiative is designed to empower tourism entrepreneurs with the knowledge and practical skills needed to establish, grow and sustain competitive tourism businesses.

By investing in the development of local tourism operators, the agency aims to enhance the quality of tourism products and services in Mpumalanga while creating opportunities for economic growth and job creation.

The training workshop forms part of MTPA’s broader commitment to developing a vibrant and inclusive tourism sector that enables emerging entrepreneurs to participate meaningfully in the province’s tourism economy.
