The D481 between Ekulindeni and Mooiplaas remains closed due to flood damage
Motorists and residents within the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) are advised of a total road closure on the D481, the primary link between Ekulindeni and Mooiplaas.
The route is currently deemed unsafe for all forms of travel following severe structural damage caused by recent heavy rainfall.
CALM, spokesperson Thapelo Phetla confirmed the severity of the situation, noting that there are currently no detours or alternative roads available for those traveling between these two points.
“We would like to urge all community members not to attempt to travel between these points until the repair work is completed and an official reopening notice is issued,” Phetla said.
He added that authorities have issued a stern warning against attempting to bypass the closure. Due to the compromised integrity of the road and the surrounding terrain, the following actions are strictly prohibited:
- Using unauthorized nearby paths.
- Attempting to crossing the river.
- Ignoring road closure signage.
Phetla emphasized that attempting to cross the damaged area is “extremely dangerous,” reiterating that public safety remains the government’s foremost concern.
